More than 13,000 volunteers will partner with 300+  Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the United States to help build affordable housing in their local communities in recognition of National Women Build Week, May 2-10. For the past seven years, National Women Build Week has challenged women to devote at least one day to the effort to eliminate poverty housing.

Women Build is Habitat for Humanity’s program for women who want to learn construction skills and build homes and communities. This program brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. No experience is necessary!

The main point of the Women Build program – like all Habitat initiatives – is to serve more families.

Of course, Women Build is not about completely excluding men. Men frequently serve in supportive roles for Women Build crews.

Did You Know?

  • 40% of women with engineering degrees either quit the profession or never enter their field of study (Source: NPR)
  • Less than 3% of women make up the construction workforce (Source: USA Today)

Women Build is aimed at empowering women and eliminating the ‘intimidation factor’ surrounding construction skills and home improvement. This initiative doesn't exclude men, but it's about including women and opening new windows of opportunity.
